JP: James Hollandsworth responds to the discovery of Ardipithecus ramidus (“Ardi”):

Eternal Viewpoint: Your Long-lost anscestor?

The big news this week is the announcement of the 1990s discovery of Ardipithecus ramidus – affectionately dubbed “Ardi” – the fossilized remains of a so-called pre-human species unearthed in Ethiopia. The fossils are supposedly the most complete set of hominids ever discovered, predating Australopithecus afarensis – nicknamed “Lucy” – by more than a million years.

Of course, evolutionists are assuming that the 4.4 million year old remains are of a human ancestor.

This find is especially exciting to evolutionists since it suggests that humans, apes and chimps all had a common ancestor, which is yet to be found, and which is much less chimp-like than originally believed. Science Magazine has published a special issue featuring Ardi in which it discusses the implications for understanding human evolution.

How can this be called science? Science is observable, repeatable, and testable in accordance with a set of known laws. Evolution, on the other hand, is based on assumptions. Perhaps one of the greatest assumptions is evident in the photo of Ardi included in this posting, which is no more than an artist’s rendering. How could the artist arrive at such a life-like representation? After all, scientists report that Ardi’s bone fragments were so brittle that they turned to dust when touched. How could the artist know that Ardi walked erect?

The artist had to assume the appearance of a complete skeleton, since so much of it was missing. In fact, the skull was in so many pieces that it had to be reconstructed digitally. Yet, amazingly, the artist seems to know what Ardi would have looked like. The assumed facial features are obviously human-like, but also ape-like. The critter looks like something out of Planet of the Apes, a late 1960s science fiction film featuring intelligent, talking apes.

Yes, we recognize this is only an artist’s rendering, but the rendering has been widely published by the scientific community to make a point, used in publications such as National Geographic and Science Magazine. Again, this is bad science or, to use the Bible term, it is science falsely so-called (1 Timothy 6:20). An honest scientist would have to admit that these skeletal fragments are either the bones of an ape or a human, not those of a so-called ancient hominid.

He who sits in the heavens must surely laugh at evolutionists. The Genesis record states that man was created by God, in the image of God, on the sixth day of creation week. The animal kingdom was created on the same day.

Evolutionists classify humans as mammals because of some common characteristics. Nevertheless, that’s not how God classifies mankind. Man is in a class by himself!

Just a little harry ape

For David Menton, who served as an anatomy professor for 20 years at Washington University School of Medicine , “all the fragments indicate is that Ardi is an ape, plain and simple—and not anywhere nearly as old as scientists would have you believe.”

In reality, evolution is a substitute religion. Time, chance, and necessity make up the evolutionary trinity. Evolutionists tell us that nothing can be understood unless interpreted through the corrective lens of the Darwinian worldview.
