Is the church perfect?

And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. (Hebrews 10:24-25)

The dangers of disobeying Hebrews 10:24-25

Is the church perfect? No – it’s made up of imperfect people who are still being perfected (see Paul in Philippians 3:12). Whatever faults the church has do not give us license to follow other direct commands, such as such those given in Hebrews 10. Paul was certainly not satisfied with the behavior of some of the NT churches, but he also never gave up on them. He rebuked them at the same time that he was encouraging them. Christianity is to be carried in out in active community – if we don’t follow that command, it’s not just a personal preference, it’s sin, and God never gives us license to sin, does He?
