There’s No Santa Claus. But There Is God

JP: Interesting editorial from the Wall Street Journal.

OK, Virginia, There’s No Santa Claus. But There Is God

Introduction:

My 8-year-old son, Caleb, puts his hand on my shoulder; he wears an expression that shows he wants to have a man-to-man talk. “Dad,” he says, “I know there’s no Santa Claus.” He rattles off his indictments, starting with the pure physics of the enterprise. There’s no way one guy can visit every house in a single night. And how does he get into houses with no chimneys? Then there’s the matter of zoology — not a single nature book on our shelves mentions flying reindeer. Perhaps most important for an 8-year-old, there’s the weight of public opinion — none of Caleb’s friends believe in Santa any more. He leans close, his voice taking that tone of worldliness that is at once endearing and saddening to a parent. “He isn’t real, is he?”

Comment: The image is from the WSJ article. What a God we have: the One who created the universe! The One Who is absolutely sovereign over all the events of history! One Who is Omnipotent, Omnipresent, Omniscient. One “in {Whom] all things consist” (Colossians 1:17). One Who is infinitely holy and yet loves sinners. One Who would demonstrate His great love by becoming one of us … being born into a world hostile to Him (the Christmas story!). One Who would live a righteous life for sinners and ultimately willingly go to the cross to suffer for sinners and die for the lost! In this same Great God, we “we live and move and have our being” (Acts 17:28).

Here’s the Santa story (Santa Claus Is Coming To Town):

You better watch out
You better not cry
Better not pout
I’m telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town
He’s making a list
And checking it twice;
Gonna find out Who’s naughty and nice
Santa Claus is coming to town
He sees you when you’re sleeping
He knows when you’re awake
He knows if you’ve been bad or good
So be good for goodness sake!
O! You better watch out!
You better not cry
Better not pout
I’m telling you why
Santa Claus is coming to town
Santa Claus is coming to town

Here’s the Christmas story (Matthew 1:21):

And she will bring forth a Son, and you shall call His name JESUS, for He will save His people from their sins.

I was one of those gullible children who believed the Santa story (until my older Sister ratted the truth to me!). I’m glad that the real Christmas story is Christ!
